Oftentimes when a cat is groomed, they are scruffed, just like when your veterinarian draws blood for their checkup and they scruff your cat for about 30 seconds. When a cat is groomed, oftentimes that cat is scruffed the entire 45 minutes to an hour or longer. That includes the time in the tub, as well as for drying, brushout, and shaving.
Cats can be dangerous to groom, they have numerous weapons, 4 sets of claws as well as teeth. When the claws are clipped and they scratch the scratches are wider. So many times, for the groomer’s safety the cats are scruffed from the moment they come out of the crate until they are finished and return to their crate.
We do not scruff cats for any reason at any time. We have 2 people working on the cat at all times. This eliminates the need for scruffing. It also allows one person to focus on keeping the cat calm while the other grooms them.
We will gladly do whatever service your cat requires, and do it in a safe, compassionate manner. We do use towels to allow the cat to hide their head, sometimes we use a Happy Hoodie which helps calm the cat as well. We also have a one-inch anti fatigue mat on the table that the cat can sink their claws into while they hold onto the table, and that gives them a sense of control and helps them feel like they are a part of the groom rather than having the groom done to them.
We also have a separate cat room which allows us to groom your cat without the distraction of other pets (aside from any family member cats you also bring in) being in that room. The pictures of our cat room can be seen below.
